Pulse Routine: Dealing with MS
When treating MS, it is important that you work with a PT as soon as possible and stay consistent. This routine can work in conjunction with your PT work to help you achieve the best outcome.
With MS the more you’re able to stretch and move, the better the outcome. Below are varied levels of exercise, warm-up and recovery protocols to help you where you’re at.
1. Decrease Tightness (Improve Mobility)
Setting Used: Motor Function - MS: Constant/Pulsing
Place the devices wherever you want to bring relief
Constant will typically give more relief while pulsing will help with more brain involvement
This setting uses a high frequency of vibration that's been shown by scientific literature to improve motor function for inhibited muscle groups and even reduce things like spasticity
Can be used for up to 15 minutes at a time before or after physical therapy.
2. Decrease Feeling of Pins & Needles
Setting Used: Recovery Type 3
Place the devices wherever you want to alleviate the pins and needles like pain
This setting uses a high frequency that's been shown to increase muscle temperature and blood flow
Can be used for up to 15 minutes at a time immediately after or 1-3 days after strenuous activity.
3. Strength Training (For Strengthening and Improving Motor Function)
Setting Used: Rehab - Strength Training: Training
This setting also uses a high frequency, great for those with MS
Perform your exercises whether given to you from a PT or that you’re doing on your own. Place the Pulse Device on the muscle you wish to strengthen.
4. Stretching & Warm-Up (Increase Range of Motion and Flexibility)
a. For Warm-up
Setting Used: Warm-up Type 2
Use before stretching or in place of stretching if unable to stretch.
Helps to increase blood flow to the area and get your muscles prepared for movement
Use for 1-5 minutes on each muscle
b. For Stretching:
Setting Used: Warm-up Type 1
Helps to increase Range of Motion while stretching and focus on spastic muscles.
Simply add the Pulse Device to your stretches on the target muscle to deepen the stretch
