The Pulse Device can be a great addition to your Physical Therapy to improve mobility, increase strength, and relax your muscles after a stroke.
In This Routine:
1. Decrease Tightness
2. Settings for Stretching and Warm Up
3. Gait Strengthening (Improve Your Walk)
4. Relax the Muscles in Your Hand
1. Decrease Tightness (Improve Mobility)
Setting Used: Rehab-> Motor Function-> Stroke: Constant
Frequency: 15 minutes daily, before or after therapy
Placement: Use on any areas where you experience tightness
2. Stretching & Warm-Up (Improve Range of Motion and Help Prevent Contractures)
a.) Increase Blood Flow to a Muscle
Use these settings while resting
Setting Used: Rehab-> Strength Training-> Warm-up
Frequency: 10 Minutes at a time
b.) Increase Range of Motion While Stretching
For stretching simply add the Pulse Device to any of your stretches to deepen the stretch and help to bring blood flow to the area.
Setting Used: Warm up-> Type 1
Frequency: 2-3 times a week, up to 15 minutes at a time
3. Gait Training (Strengthen Your Walk)
Settings Used:
Go to Performance Settings, press the arrow/v next to standard, and then press Guided Reps. Start off with Type 2 settings and if you want to go faster switch to Type 3
Placement:
Place device on the Quadricep, Front of hip or Tibial anterior muscle(the muscle in front of your calf)
Choose whichever muscle gives you the most trouble
If possible, try to time your steps with the vibrations. Try to feel your muscle contracting with the help of the vibration. This will help you to strengthen your mind's connection to the muscle.
4. Relax the Muscle (Local vibration therapy has been shown to alleviate spasticity)
a.) For General Use
Setting used: Rehab-> Motor Function-> Stroke-> Constant
Frequency: 15 minutes at a time
b.) With Hand Opening Exercises
Setting Used: Rehab-> Motor Function-> Stroke-> Pulsing
Frequency: 15 minutes at a time
This setting is to be used while users try to open and close their hands. The vibrations can help users to connect with the hand muscles as well as aiding in increasing the range of motion.
